The southernmost city in the world will celebrate the longest night of the year.
The city of Ushuaia launched a celebration of ten days that will be held in June to welcome the winter and celebrate the longest night of the year in the southern hemisphere, according to official sources of the municipality confirmed to Télam.
One day before the beginning of autumn, the authorities of the southernmost city in the world already anticipated details and even revealed the list of national and international artists who will be part of the traditional “National Festival of the Longest Night”, the most entrenched in the calendar for both locals and tourists.
The mayor of Ushuaia, Walter Vuoto, confirmed that this year, due to the provincial elections (they are held on 16 June with a possible balotaje on 23), the festival will run from 31 May to 10 June, with evenings divided by musical genres that will combine the presentation of Fueguino artists with other national artists.
In this way, there will be nights dedicated to rock, quartet, tango, folklore, electronic music and children's shows.
“ Our idea is to consolidate this festival that is so symbolic for the Fueguinos and is an artistic and cultural expression,” said Vuoto.
Among the artists who will perform at the party were already confirmed Cyrus and the Persians (Thursday 6 June) Vicentico and Kapanga (Friday 7) Los Tekis (Saturday 8) Ulises Bueno (Sunday 9) and Paulo Londra (Monday 10).
The children's show La granja de Zenón, Viru Kumbaron and Damas gratis (Monday 3) Jorge Rojas (Tuesday 4) and La Barra and Princess Karina (Wednesday 5) will also be presented.
Meanwhile, Herederos del Compás and the Orquesta D' Arienzo will animate the tango evening on June 1, while on the following day there will be electronic music in the afternoon and melodic in the evening with the presentation of Valeria Linch.
The city will also elect its social ambassadors on May 31, replacing the women's beauty contests that were discarded years ago.
“ We have many expectations. Not only because of the list of invited artists but because it is a popular festival with a lot of roots in the community and also enjoyed by tourists who visit us,” said Ushuaia's Secretary of Culture and Education, David Ferreyra.
The official also mentioned that it will work “very hard” in the dissemination of the festival through local and national media, because “we want to impose definitively this celebration within the most important calendar of popular festivals in the country,” Ferreyra said.
