Located 3000 km from Buenos Aires and 315 from Rio Gallegos (capital of Santa Cruz), the city of Calafatense surprises with its tranquility, cleanliness and green landscape of forests and mountains. That's why today we share three must-see walks for your next visit to this city.
Knowing the Glaciarium , is undoubtedly one of the activities that you will not be able to miss during your visit to El Calafate . This is the glacier museum and is one of the few examples in the world of its kind. Located 6km from El Calafate, it has several rooms and audiovisual equipment.
The Glaciarium project began in 2008. One of its main objectives is to raise awareness about the dissemination and research of glaciers with an environmental awareness message. The architecture of its building, proposes an emblematic, expressive and forceful image. Its modern lines refer to glacial aesthetics, and the contents displayed there have the most modern resources. Animations, models, films, dioramas, photographs, make the visit a unique experience.
The exhibits introduce visitors to caves, which explain how snow is transformed into ice , where there are glaciers in the world, what is the history of climate change and who are the pioneer explorers and glaciologists.
Its main attraction is “La voz del glacier”, a 3D film where in the first person, this thick mass of ice shares its story with stunning shots recorded with drones. Cafeteria, Ecoshop, a gift shop with sustainable design products, and GlacioBar, Argentina's first ice bar complete the visit.
For the more adventurous, this is a relatively little-known adventure urism activity in El Calafate. The tour takes the Lake Argentino just meters away from the Perito Moreno Glacier . Before starting, you can walk along the walkways and walk through the park for two hours.
The groups are small (no more than 20 people per day), and instructed by three expert guides on safety and rowing standards. They are also provided with appropriate technical clothing , such as: Gore-Tex dry suit, thermal suit, boots, gloves and life jacket and indications from three expert guides. In addition, a support vessel escorts the expeditioners. Children under 14 are not allowed to visit .
It is a walk where you travel 164 km in a modern, spacious and comfortable boat . Ideal for the tour through one of the walls of Perito Moreno and includes the Spegazzini and Upsala glaciers, the largest and highest glaciers in South America respectively.
Hundreds of places accompany you during the walk, so you can take really spectacular pictures. It also includes a stop at Puesto de las Vacas , (Bay Onelli), where you will disembark and make a walk coordinated by the team of guides, with a view of the old village post, recognition of flora and fauna in a nearby forest.
