National Festival of the Pachamama of the Andean Peoples

From Thursday 1 August until Saturday 31 different activities will be held in the municipalities of San Antonio de lo Cobres and Tolar Grande.

Fiesta Nacional de la Pachamama

 The 24th edition of the National Festival of the Pachamama of the Andean Peoples , which has the support of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports, was presented at the Museum of Archaeology of Alta Montaña.

The event was led by the Secretary of Tourism of the Province of Salta, Estanislao Villanueva and the mayor of  San Antonio de los Cobres , Leopoldo Salva.

“From the Government of the Province we want to thank you for the work they have been doing year by year to keep alive one of the most significant and traditional celebrations in our Province,” said Villanueva.

For his part, the mayor of San Antonio de los Cobres said that, “we want to invite all who want to reach the  Puna Salteña  so that they can live with us and their  families  this ancestral celebration in which we worship Mother Earth.”

During the presentation it was anticipated that the activities will begin on Thursday, August 1 with the ritual of sahumerio in all the municipal houses and institutions of San Antonio de los Cobres and  Tolar Grande .

Meanwhile, the central ceremony will be on Saturday 3 August from 15 at the railway station of San Antonio de los Cobres where the ritual to  Mother Earth  will take place and visitors will enjoy dance and dance and  music  by sikuris, couplets to the Pachamama and native dances of the different ethnic groups, and they will also be given the thread “yoki” to each of them.

Throughout the month different activities will be held in La Puna that will culminate on Saturday 31 August from 16 with the homage to Mother Earth in the Sacred Hill, located in the town of Tolar Grande.

On the occasion also the president of the  Train a las Nubes , Carmelo Russo, said that for Saturday August 3 the train will offer two departures so that “more than 700 passengers can live and enjoy this great celebration”.

Also participated in the presentation were the president of the Chamber of Tourism of Salta, Carlos Eckhardt, the director of Culture and Tourism of Tolar Grande, Hugo Peyret, the director of MAAM, Gabriela Recagno and chief Miguel Siares, from the Collas Unidos community of San Antonio de los Cobres.
