The Christ King of Tupungato, what you need to know before you go

Christ the King of Tupungato is an icon of the department and the Valley of Uco, for the extraordinary peace that is breathed in the place.

Cristo Rey Tupungato

On the Camino de los Cerrillos, as the Provincial Route 86 is known, it is an excellent option to do in Valle de Uco, Mendoza. A surprising tour to Cordón del Plata with great views of the  Tupungato Valley. This route stimulates us to reach the Mirador del Cristo Rey, emblem of the religious fervor of the Tupungatinos, from there they are contemplated to  the full Andes  throughout its length.

It has a height of 28 meters, being one of the largest and tallest sculptures in Argentina.  It represents Christ with open arms and is facing the Tupungato Valley.  It was opened in 2005  and at the top of the hill the altitude is 1428 meters.

For this reason, the Municipality, through the Directorate of Tourism, started one of the new tourist services: walking and sunset in the Cristo Rey.

 The excursion

This is an excursion along the trails of the well-known Cerrillos tupungatinos, which lasts approximately 2 hours.  It is a walk adapted for tourists and residents of age, who can enjoy and internalize themselves with the majesty of this Valletana town, allowing to know its natural wealth from the flora and fauna, and the history of the ancient road that gave entrance to Tupungato, among other experiences.

Starting from the Hotel Turismo, tourists and neighbors embark on a journey prepared to live an unforgettable afternoon, accompanied by professional mountain guides.  At the end of the tour, with a lit sky, they enjoy a toast with the sunset at the foot of Christ the King,  taking advantage of the landscape to take pictures and keep in the memory a unique experience.

Those interested in doing this tourist activity can register from Monday to Sunday from 8 am to 7 pm at the office of the Tourism Directorate (Av. Belgrano 1060) or online by   clicking here   suitable only for people over 16 years old.

The service includes transfer, guide and snack, and takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 09:00.
