Have you heard of Astrotourism?

More than 400 fans made astrotourism in the north of Neuquén this year. We'll tell you what this curious activity is all about.

Astroturismo Los Bolillos

What do we talk about when we talk about Astrotourism? In simple words, astrotourism is astronomical tourism. A type of tourism oriented to astronomy. But in fact, it also has to do with the pleasure of visiting places conducive to astronomical observation. Los Bolillos, in the province of Neuquén, is one of those ideal places to do so.

Nowadays, astrotourism is considered a recreational and scientific activity that has had a great growth in recent years. In addition, it has made it possible to highlight a number of natural resources, cultural resources, landscapes and heritage elements associated with astronomy. An activity that previously took place in closed places such as observatories and planetariums, is now carried out in open spaces. In areas free of light pollution. This allows to combine scientific knowledge of astronomy, culture and nature, in a single event.

An activity for nature lovers

Nature lovers, photography and good walking were able to enjoy a unique event. At the beginning of this year, the fourth edition of the Trekking Night Way to the Stars was developed. A unique spectacle in the north of Neuquén where one of the purest skies in the country is located.

The main activity took place in Los Bolillos, site of extraordinary rock formations, eroded by the wind and the rain. 400 people quietly walked under a cloak of stars. There staff of the Varvarco Tourism Directorate provided information on the cultural and landscape richness. In addition, the program included talks about geography and wintering sites (passing through chenqueles or ancient caves).

As for baggage items essential for the journey, the attendants walked equipped. They carried Mandatory headlamp, windbreaker jacket, long pants, backpack 20 litres approx, sticks and bottle to carry water.
