La Perla is located in Malagueño, 15 km from Cordoba's capital . The village is located on the RN 20 that links the city of Cordoba with Carlos Paz. It's a place that brings us back to the origin, that reminds us of who we are. And that connects us to the most horrific thing in our history . This place has a lot of symbolic burden for Cordoba's history. It is also known as “the University”, and was the first clandestine detention center (CCD) in the province, outside the capital.
It is estimated that 3000 detainees passed there, most of whom remain missing. In this center, the torture sessions were prolonged and the people who carried them were famous and feared. “La Cuca”, “Charlie Moore”, “Pipo Romero” and “La Tia Pereyra”. Dark characters carrying Cordoban terror.
This space began to work before the coup d'état of 24 March 1976. In 1975 it functioned as a torture laboratory. And it continued until the end of '78. It is a living mark that runs through the memory of the town of Cordoba . The episodes that tell us the walls of this place are shocking. However, it does not cease to be a place to visit. A space that ignites memory and collective consciousness.
A visit that invites reflection and proclaiming a “Never again!” to State terrorism. Never again to the disappeared, nor to torture. Never again to rape, and to power in the hands of the Armed Forces. This space opens up a wound that never closes, because it is preferable that way. Keep it open, beating, reminding us of what we should not repeat. Reminding us who we are and where we are going as a country, as Argentines, as Cordoba.
This Pearl does not shine, however, it illuminates the facts of the past, so that we can keep them well in mind.Today it works as a space for evocation. There is the Provincial Commission on Memory. This space works in the areas of research, communication, conservation, maintenance, culture, museography and education. All of these operate in a harmonic way to reconstruct the recesses that remained. To give us back, little by little, what they took. To tell us the stories of Argentines and Argentines who today can't tell us with their own voice.
