Argentines increasingly become aware of ecology and the importance of environmental care. Characterized by being environmentally friendly and providing closer contact with nature, astrotourism became the trending activity of this summer. It consists of excursions to places far from the city, in the open air, where there is no light pollution. Therefore, the high peaks of Córdoba are the perfect place for those who want to encourage themselves to experience this type of experience.
The province of Córdoba offers different variations of astrotourism. Some are more relaxed and others involve a little adrenaline. One of them takes place in Cerro Champaquí , better known as the “Roof of Córdoba”, whose height is 2790 meters. The tour starts at the meeting point mid-morning in Yacanto de Calamuchita, and then, in vehicles move to Cerro Linderos. There, the guide specializing in astrotourism will give a technical talk to start a 2,5 km walk to the summit of Champaqui. Here, you will spend the rest of the afternoon and watch the sunset. Then, when the moon covers the sky, astronomical observation begins to recognize the constellations and stars. The next day, he returns to Yacanto de Calamuchita.
For those looking for a little more adrenaline, there is the option of combining night kayaking, trekking and astrotourism. This activity begins in the afternoon, in Boca de Rio (Dike José de La Quintana) with a 4 km kayak journey to the wall of the dam. Then, there is a trekking, of 2 km and of low difficulty, to the nascent of the river Los Molinos . There, with the help of telescopes, the stars are observed, while a specialized guide tells mythical explanations of nature. In addition, this activity includes a stove, live music and a moonlight dinner, which is ideal for couples. The approximate duration of the tour is 8 hours and is of moderate difficulty. The activity ends around 2 in the morning where you row to the starting point.
Another option for astrotourism in Córdoba is in the mythical Cerro Uritorco, whose height is 1949 meters. The meeting point is in the Villa Cielo Municipal Nature Reserve , located in the town of Capilla del Monte . The activity, which lasts an hour and a half, consists of an astronomical observation and talk about how the original cultures thought and lived the sky. The Uritorco is known for the urban myths of paranormal experiences that characterize it. One of the most well-known stories involves singer Patricia Sosa, who had a paranormal experience with beings from another planet, about 25 years ago on this hill. The singer told about this encounter, that these unknown beings asked her to stop consuming meat and that's why she became a vegetarian.
Contemplating the stars on the heights of the summits of Cordoba is the ideal excursion to enjoy a dreamy landscape connecting with nature. From different heights and observing different constellations, the options, as well as the stars, are endless.
