Falda del Carmen is one of the key destinations to make those getaways from the capital city. That is why we in Cordoba have it as one of the favorite destinations. It is that this space is a paradise for the belly and the mind. It not only abstracts us from the city rhythm of the capital of Cordoba, but also offers us unique delicacies, which can only be obtained in these mountain corners.
It is located in the Paravachasca Valley , in the Santa Maria department and just 7 km from Alta Gracia. Its creek of the same name invites us to spend splendid evenings and nights. The chapel Nuestra Señora del Carmen, which was originally made of adobe and thatched roof, with images of Our Lady of Carmen and San Jose. Today it is one of the attractions for those interested in the history and religion of each place. But there are more in this village of almost 200 inhabitants.
One of the most visited and recommended places in the Falda del Carmen area is the Astronomical Observatory . Its official name is Estación Astrofísica de Bosque Alegre, a place where you travel is towards the stars. In the middle of the mountains of Cordoba, at 1350m above sea level, a tower rises from which we can immerse ourselves in the whole universe. Can something be more magical? Just 50 km from the capital of Cordoba, this observatory has telescopes to connect with the immensity of galaxies.
The Main Dome was built in 1928, but this astronomical center was opened only in 1942. The building is surrounded by pine trees that are functional for a better appreciation of the sky. They regulate the temperature changes generated by floor heating and allow better vision. The telescope used weighs 40 tons.
This station located in Falda del Carmen has 15 hectares, available for everyone to visit, which can be daytime or night. Day every weekend (Saturday, Sunday and holidays), without prior reservation. From 11:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00 (from April to September) and from 11:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 19:00 (from October to March).
Night visits: 20:00 to 22:00 (between October and March) and 19:00 to 21:00 (between April and September). They take place on Saturdays, prior registration by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. or phone (0351) 4331063/4/5.
How to get there: Falda del Carmen is about 35 kilometres from the city of Cordoba. By car you can reach the RP 5 or the RN20 and RP C45. By collective, one option is with Grupo Sarmiento buses.
Where to stay: There are several cabins for you to stay.
Gastronomy: Three gastronomic sites stand out: Gran Vadori, with a gourmet tradition, La Pulpería de Achával, between pasta and grill, and the Quito warehouse, with its sandwiches.
