5 Barilochans will go to the Youth Olympic Games in Switzerland
From January 9 to 22, the Winter Youth Olympic Games will be held in Lausanne, Switzerland. The competition celebrates its third edition in which young people from 15 to 18 years of age will participate.
Sixteen winter disciplines will be the protagonists of the competitions. These include downhill skiing and biathlon (a combination of cross-country skiing with carbine shooting). There will also be different modes of sledding, figure skating, acrobatic skiing and Nordic combined, among others.
The Argentine Olympic Committee traveled with 16 athletes, of which five are Barilochenses. Sofía Saint Antonin of the Ski Club Bariloche will be the athlete who will compete in Alpine Skiing. Cross Country will be present Pedro Cotaro, Agustina Groetzner, Zoe Ojeda and Mateo Lorenzo, all from Club Andino Bariloche.
The delegation is completed by Bautista Alarcón of Club Andino Villa La Angostura, Titian Gravier and Esperanza Pérez Iraola. These last two of the Club Argentine Ski from Buenos Aires. All of them will be in the competitions of Alpine skiing.
Junior Espósito Vigo, Delfina Fattore, Mila Lutteral of the hockey discipline will also participate. Also snowboarders Morena Arroyo Mora, Dante Vera, María José Azul Chavez Martínez, Valentín Moreno and Morena Poggi Silvera.
The delegation will be chaired by the leader of the Argentine Federation of Ski and Andinism, Magdy Kast. Who was appointed by the Argentine Olympic Committee as Head of Mission. National athletes will be divided into two parts. First alpine skiing and hockey athletes will compete and then cross-country skiing and snowboarding.
From the Youth Olympic Games will participate almost 1900 athletes from some 70 countries. There will be a total of 8 sports included in 81 tests. The budget for these Games amounts to 33 million euros and access to competitions is free.
In the last games, Argentina got a seventh place in luge (sledding), so he obtained a diploma.
