For some years, in Mendoza, there have been some acts of aggression and violence against some historical monuments located in squares and in green spaces. In no case have any grounds or responsible for these events been found. And this time it was the Untouchable. He dodged thousands of hits above the ring, but, in this case, Nicolino could not and was shot down by a group of cowards.
“I invite the neighbors to visit this new homage of the City and to take care of it among all. Nicolino Locche was a great idol of the Mendoza and an outstanding exponent of the national sport.” With these words, the Mayor of the City of Mendoza inaugurated, in 2018, the tribute to the Untouchable statue. However, some did not listen and took care of interrupting the peace experienced by the Mendoza athlete, after his death, in 2005.
The monument to the historic mendocino boxer, located in the Lineal Park of Ciudad , meters from Videla Correa, suffered several damage as it was thrown to the apartment. The capital commune repudiated the episode and rejected “such acts of barbarism” and urged passers-by “to take care of monuments and make good use of public spaces.”
The author of the sculpture homage to the ex-pugil is the artist Sonia López. The monument is a life-size representation of Locche, designed for people to interact and take pictures with it . It was made of polyester resin in order to make it lighter.
It is noteworthy that the park is named after the “Untouchable” in homage to dear Nicolino, as the former boxer lived nearby and used to walk around the area when he was going to train.
This green space, stretching across Peru, from Videla Correa to Mosconi, is visited daily by thousands of people. Created in 2015, it managed to become a more meeting place and to enjoy outdoor physical activities.
