National Senator Juan Carlos Marino (Together for Change,  La Pampa ) presented the Honorable Mention “ Domingo Faustino Sarmiento ” to the parents of the girl Justina Lo Cane. This is one year after the adoption of the law on organ donation of which they were the main drivers.

Senator Marino gave the Mention to Ezequiel Lo Cane and Paola Stello to acknowledge and thank for their work. They were the promoters of the “Justina Law”. This is how the norm is known in homage to the girl who died waiting for a heart  transplant  .

The ceremony was attended by renowned specialists in the subject, project collaborators and relatives of transplanted people.

“Ezekiel and Paola suffered one of the most heartbreaking situations we can imagine: the loss of a daughter. But they had the strength to transform that pain into solidarity. And work on the enactment of a law that helps other families don't have to go through the same,” Marino explained in a statement.

“Before he left, Justina left them the legacy of helping all who can. The thousands of lives that have been saved since the enactment of the Law show that they fulfilled. Therefore, through this recognition we want to thank them for their efforts and continue to work on raising awareness about the donation,” added Marino.

The  Justina Law  was unanimously passed by both Houses of Congress on July 4, 2018. Since its application, it allowed thousands of people to receive in time the  transplant  they expected.

The norm changed the paradigm of organ donation in Argentina. He established that we are all donors unless we expressly state otherwise.

In the last year, organ transplants increased by 32 per cent. This is according to statistics from the National Central Institute Unified Coordinator of Ablation and Implant (INCUCAI).

The Honorable Mention “Domingo Faustino  Sarmiento ” is the highest recognition granted by the  Senate to natural or legal persons in the cultural activity, sports, professional and academic. For his entrepreneurial work aimed at improving the quality of life of their fellow men, institutions and communities.
