We present to you this 20-year-old girl who, thanks to her commitment, became the first university student with Down syndrome in Salta.
When she finished high school, Eva Godoy — like so many young people — had a dream: she wanted to study Engineering, just like her mom. But Eva is not like other young people: Eva has Down syndrome, and that made fulfilling her university dream cost her much more.
Eva began her career in Natural Resources and Environment Engineering at the National University of Salta, and immediately made her feel different. Neither the authorities nor teachers took into account their needs, such as the presence of a pedagogical companion or adaptations in the forms of teaching and evaluation.
After almost two years without answers, his parents decided to resort to the Inadi, who proposed mediation with the university. Upon the complaint, the university authorities stated that they had not been aware of certain discriminatory situations, but agreed to make decisive changes: the university included a new protocol that adapts the curricula and curricula of the subjects and the methods of teaching and evaluation, and made a commitment to provide training courses and training for teachers and administrative staff.
For defending her rights and not lowering her arms, today Eva is the first university student with Down syndrome in Salta, she is already in the second year of her career and is assistant professor of her favorite subject: Zoology.
