Beach. Sun. Sand. Athletes. Dexterity. First level organization... Santa Fe became the capital of beach volleyball during the last two weekends of 2019. First, a professional meeting was held in the women's modality. A week later a meeting of similar characteristics took place in the provincial capital, but aimed at male competitors.
Both competitions took place in Parador Santa Fe, a spa resort located on the beach of Laguna Setúbal, East Coast of the capital city of the province.
On women's weekend, fourteen pairs from Argentina competed: Santa Fe, Rosario, Mendoza, Tucuman, Buenos Aires and Entre Rios province. Mendoza Laura Moreno and Eugenia Tuilz were consecrated champions.
On the side of the men's championship, there were about thirty participating couples. The winners were Gabriel Fernández from Cordoba and Fabricio Satriano from Rosario.
Both tournaments were organized by the Santafesina Association of Volleyball, and had the collaboration of numerous local companies.
Beyond the obvious difference that this modality has with the traditional volleyball , that is, the outdoor environment, sand and sun, the main feature is the number of players. While indoor volleyball is played with six members, beach volleyball is practiced in pairs. Since 1996, it is a discipline that participates in the Olympics. At the national level, Argentina has grown in its performance in this sport, mainly in its women's branch, with outstanding personalities worldwide, such as Ana Gallay.
At least during the first stage of summer, unfortunately, the beautiful beaches of La Setúbal are not enabled as a spa. However, the downhill of Paraná makes the extension of the coasts much larger than usual, making them a space conducive to sports. As a variant of unfailing football, volleyball also became an attractive recreational activity.
