On the other hand, South American countries approved to promote the holding of a youth event for international classes in our continent. The Argentine project achieved support from all South American countries and initial support from the President of World Sailing . The idea is to give a higher competitive level and continuity to South American youth events of international classes.
Today the South American Optimist Championship has a great level and that is why athletes from all over the world come to be measured in it. The development of our sport in the Region needs such an event to give at a low cost the opportunity to our athletes to continue to measure themselves with their peers at international level events.
Yacht Club Uruguayo will assume the responsibility of carrying out the event in Easter 2020 between 5 and 12 April 2020, and will participate classes 420, 29 er., Snipe, Nacra 15, Kite, Laser and Windsurf classes (some classes such as an open championship and other classes only for children under 21 years old).
Finally, in 2021 the first Pan American youth games will be held in Colombia, and the South American youth match would be the main qualifying event for the following year. It remains that the international organization decides on the events and facilities of these new Pan American youth games.
