The Pumas couldn't take the Chilean team
The Pumas 7s fell in the final of the Punta del Seven against their Chilean counterpart by 7-5. The cast led by Santiago Gómez Cora had a seamless tournament, but in the final he met a Chilean cast who knew how to contain the National Selected and who in the last play supported a try that gave him the title.
To reach the final Argentina defeated the United States (31-7) and Germany (34-0), in the quarterfinals and semi-finals, respectively. Meanwhile, the other finalist, Chile, beat Canada (31-10) and Portugal (24-14).
The final had an Argentine cast who always sought to play a leading role but could not break the iron Chilean defense. The parity between the two teams just broke in the closing of the first half with a try by Lautaro Bazán Vélez, after Mare enabled him with a good cross kick.
In the plugin the actions did not vary much. Argentina had the ball and Chile defended taking advantage of the inaccuracies of the Argentine team. It seemed like Los Pumas 7s were taking him, but in a contraruck in the last play of the game, Chile had one last chance and didn't miss it.
It was Chilean victory and tran-Andean joy. Argentina of good tournament, could not close the match and took second place.
The activity for the National Selection will have two paths for this week. On the one hand, most of the squad present in Punta del Este will travel to Pinamar to perform a physical preseason and focus on what will be the stages in Hamilton and Sydney corresponding to the World Tour. On the other hand, the rest of the squad will participate in the Seven of Viña del Mar which will take place on 12 and 13 January in the country of Trasandino.
