Nostalgics

The so-called “Old Bookshops” sold mostly used books. Located mainly on Avenida Corrientes and Avenida de Mayo, they were characterized by offering used books, old unread editions and cheaper editions, all alternatives with good content at very affordable prices. Revolving between books, playing with the opportunity to find that recommended volume, was a repeated ceremony.

The bookstores were characterized by the high temperature inside them, as if the sum of all those books accumulated released incalculable energy. Air conditioning was not available and, if there was a fan, it pointed to the owner, who was always located at the sales counter.

The “smell of book” was an unforgettable sensation. One encountered surprises: dried flowers, cards, markers with dedications, margin notes that enriched the content of the text, underlined pages highlighting special concepts or key paragraphs; a number of details and circumstances absent from a new book. The task of stirring up the used was surprised to find the little gem unthinkable: an old edition, an exhausted book.
