The Winning Eleven Tournament

Well, you might notice my age here, but for me the console football game was and will be, the Winning Eleven.


Well, maybe here you'll notice my age (I'm starting to drop the jogs, I can't help it), but for me the console football game is never going to be  FIFA , not even  PES (Pro Evolution Soccer, in case there is any clueless): the sign, for me, was, is and be-aacute; for ever and ever, the  Winning Eleven .

That game changed adolescence for a generation of Argentines. Until that moment, I had never been very friends with consoles or computer games, but the  Winning  (from now on I will write “güinin”, if I may) introduced something distinctive, different, novel, that for the average Argentine is nothing less: competitiveness. With the güinin one did not feel like he was playing “computer”, against a virtual opponent, a product of the —scarce — artificial intelligence of the time: he was playing against another person (very often a friend), who could scream goals in his face and even, if the thing went past screw, I could slap him (once I swear I was about to give it and several about to receive it).

Because guinin, for people my age, was the possibility of achieving what once required physical exertion and space in the comfort of an armchair in a living room. Evidently we were already getting old and we didn't want to see him...
