The Romantic Novel

This so-called “gender minor” was a cultural, editorial and sales phenomenon.

The romantic novel exercised its appeal to the female audience, especially; when the woman formed a family, developing domestic activities and the man was solely responsible for supporting that family. It was a cultural and editorial phenomenon. In both radio broadcasts and weekly publications, the novel provided a very special half-hour space, offering an instant of dreamy, in an imaginary paradise, where the underlying inequality in homes disappeared. A load of discreet eroticism kept the audience in a hilly during the broadcast. This badly called “genre minor”, was a very significant cultural, editorial and sales phenomenon. The publications of Corín Tellado and M. Delly were eaten by the female audience. Many low-cost, such as those of the “TOR Editorial”, allowed its arrival to all sectors of the population. Both the reader and the listener identified with the heroine on duty during each chapter, hierarchizing this everyday entertainment of that nostalgic Argentina.
