Ingebord Mello in Argentine athletics

He was the top figure in national athletics for two decades. He achieved the first Argentine record in bullet throwing.

Ingebord Mello was born in Germany on January 4, 1919. He emigrated to the country in 1938, at the age of 19, fleeing Nazism. He joined Argentine athletics, where he uncollated in the launch of the disc and the bullet.

His athletic career was verified in the 40’s and 50’s, becoming the top figure of the national team. The best records were obtained during the period of the Peronistgovernment.

It officially debuted on March 25, 1939 with the launch of the bullet, achieving the first Argentine record on October 28, 1941. He was an Olympic representative on two occasions: in London in 1948 and in Helsinki in 1952. Pan American champion in disc and bullet release, competed until 1969, turning 50 years old.

While representing San Lorenzo de Almagro, I had the opportunity to attend his workouts on the athletic track of the club River Plate, 1947. With a dark blue diver and black pants, Ingebord Mello did practice with the bullet in a section of the track with 6 platforms that surrounded the perimeter of the court.

He died at the age of 90 in Buenos Aireson 25 October 2009. Ingebord Mello was the top figure in national athletics for two decades, winning 7 gold, 3 silver and 15 bronze medals in Argentine, South American, Ibero-American and Pan American championships. She was a fearsome competitor, able to overcome her opponents in the last attempt.
