Bon appetit!

Typical phrase and auspicious wish that is mentioned when someone is ready to eat. Asking for the bon appetit is a good Argentinian custom.

How we talk
Buen Provecho!

Not only in Argentina. The habit of wishing bon appetit   occurs throughout Latin America   . Surely you have already heard it or even mentioned hundreds of times. However, there is always some unsuspecting for some quick explanation.   Exclaim: “Bon Appetit! ” when someone is eating is the same as wishing them to have a good   food, make the dish like it, etc. But where does it come from? What did it mean originally?

The expression   is part of the legacy left of our colonizers, the Spaniards. Who, in turn, received it from the   Moors, who share this tradition with all oriental culture. It's just that, in those lengths,   is eaten with an open mouth and burps before getting up from the table   . Why? Because it is a society that, in the past, famines of the heavy. Then, show the food you have in your mouth or burp at the end of eating it   is synonymous with being thankful that at that time you have food   , and not like their ancestors. That is why each one in his or her own language,   tend to predict bon appetit.

However,   in our country   , and in Latin American culture in general, the issue of profit (for parents, above all)   is usually related to the small belching and/or vomiting produced by the baby   every time you finish taking breast milk. So, there is a problem. Wish the bon appetit, but with oriental edging or, as desired to babies that, as explained, is a little pleasant topic.

That is why, in conclusion, the phrase “good appetite” is increasingly accepted. And, on top of that, you can play the pot, the polyglot. You throw it in French: “Bon appetit”, and you steal all the flashes.
