Health and Esthetics

We usually take it for granted that we value others, but that must be translated into concrete attitudes. This means that it is not enough to say: “I respect, I value it, it/to appreciate it,” but that must be manifested through tangible acts.In what way do you realize that you are valued? And on the other hand, how do you perceive that you are not valued? The most common answers are:  I feel valued when:

  • They pay attention to me while I talk.
  • They have a kind attitude in gestural and verbal treatment.
  • They respect my time by attending appointments promptly.
  • They listen to my opinions even if they are different.
  • They weigh or highlight positive personal attitudes.
  • They keep their word: they say they're going to do something and they do it.

 I don't feel valued when:

  • They interrupt me while I talk.
  • They look at the cell when I'm talking.
  • They're unpunctual.
  • Previously agreed meetings (social and/or labor) canceled.
  • They make fun of jokes normally accepted by everyone, knowing that they are a form of devaluation.

These are some of the concrete ways in which people feel valued or unvalued. It is important to note that self-esteem or self-assessment begins in oneself, therefore, who is valued, valued others. In a world where what preponderates is devaluation translated into multiple actions such as criticism, mockery, jokes with second intentions, indifference, and mistreatment gestural, verbal and physical, learning to value ourselves and extend it to others is a very valuable act that begins in a decision: that of appreciating every human being beyond his personal characteristics, beyond the “like/i don't like.” Deciding to value ourselves and valuing others (and that that translates into the kind of treatment we want to give and receive) is one of the profound changes we all want to experience.
