There are few show people who are as loved and remembered in pairs and admired as Alberto Olmedo is.
A man of humble origin from the neighborhood of Pichincha , in the city of Rosario (Santa Fe), where he lived his childhood and adolescence with his mother Matilde Olmedo. He was born in that city in 1933 and never forgot about his origins, it's more: he always remembered them on camera and outside it.
After trying and studying acting in Rosario, he decided to go to Buenos Aires at the age of 21 to see if he was more lucky with what was his true vocation. In 1955 he joined Canal 7 as an operator, thanks to the reference of his friend Pancho Guerrero.
The opportunity of his life was at the end of the year dinner of the canal, where authorities and staff met. Olmedo was able to show off with an incredible improvisation that left pleasantly surprised all the concurrent. So much so that Julio Bringuer Ayala, the station's auditor, offered him to work as an actor. He began making monologues and small sketches in Jean Cartier 's magazine , at the same time he participated in Midnight in Buenos Aires and in Sonrisas y melodí ace .
Thereafter his career was on the rise and never stopped working. His first and remembered success was in 1960 with El Capitán Piluso , broadcast on Canal 9 , a children's program. It was Fito Paez who immortalized this character in a tribute to Alberto Olmedo in his song “ Tema de Piluso ”.
He made dozens of films and comedies and was one of the last capocomics of a whole generation of stars. Many figures accompanied him throughout his career, but there were two who are unforgettable. One was Jorge Porce l and another Javier Portales.
Both shone in multiple films and the latter immortalized their characters Álvarez and Borges together chatting. So important was this sketch that, in Ros a rio , it is honored with a bronze sculpture. This refers to the famous sketch he starred with Javier Portales and another similar is in Buenos Aires, where both characters are sitting on the emblematic armchair.
On the other hand, very well remembered are the more than dozens of films he made with Jorge Porcel, such as being The knights of the round bed , The kings of the Sablazo , Quirky Attraction , Look at me the popcorn , Colimbas have fun , etc.
His end was found in Mar del Plata and was a tragedy for the artistic world and its followers.
He was next to his partner at that time, Nancy Herrera , when he fell from the balcony of her apartment on the 11th floor of the Maral 39 building, and died on the spot . Anyway, the main hypothesis about his death was that he was drugged and somewhat drunk, and he climbed dangerously over the balcony railing and fell.
After his tragic death so unexpectedly and in the best of his career, he became a cult artist and gave up to him and, to this day, various tributes continue to be paid to a man who gave us so much smiles and joys.
