On weekends , for jujeños, they always bring bets for some getaway or short trips in their beloved province. The tourist offer is very wide, but provincians tend to choose Humahuaca as their place for relaxation. The Quebrada de Humahuaca is a place full of mountains that, as you travel, change drastically. Through there flows the Rio Grande and the well-known National Route 9. Already deep into the heights, the place offers a variation of areas with abundant vegetation and others completely arid. Here are some of the reasons why jujeños choose the place on weekends.
La Quebrada de Humahuaca is located 10 kilometers from San Salvador de Jujuy, capital of the province. Almost two hours of travel are worth it because of the large number of activities it offers to its visitors. You can not miss in the backpack caps, camperas, water to hydrate on walks, and something indispensable for jujeños is the bag with coca leaves to go chewing. Others even carry fishing rods, hooks and bait, going ready for the Lagunas de Yala. With friends or family, whether in private cars, buses or taxis, they are ready to travel to the long-awaited destination.
While the jujeños have kept the crossings to the valleys intact, the current pandemic has increased even more visits to this place. Preventive restrictions and regulations to visit other points have highlighted the strong rise of the choice of jujeños by Humahuaca.
Within the number of activities that can be done, there are countless visits. The first of these is the Potrero de Yala Provincial Park. A large part of the yungas, or mountain jungle, is concentrated in the place. Various hiking circuits await jujeños looking for adventures while chewing coca leaves. Another nearby destination is the Lagunas de Yala, where sport fishing is key for fans of this activity. Yala come to the capitalinos who are looking for a fresh, fresh air, get out of the monotony and give a close connection with the flora and fauna that the area offers.
While there are those who finish the visit there, others decide to stay for the full weekend and return early Monday to their obligations. Therefore, before reaching Yala, take the detour to Provincial Route 4 to reach Termas de Reyes. A resort, cabanas and a fantastic spa delight the citadines along with hiking walks that have them prepared on site.
On the other hand, the vast majority of young people and families choose Purmamarca as a destination. They get up very early, about 8 in the morning. With a bag prepared with changes of clothes for your stay, they take the bus that runs through the Quebrada that passes through Purmamarca and descend for a walk through the main square, where craftsmen with colorful handicrafts, wool clothes and, in the background, the hill of the 7 colors await them. Then they're going to have breakfast at the Entre Amigos bar. Before noon, after passing through the Little Cabildo , they head for a walk through the viewpoints. In the evening, in general, young people get together to spend some time with friends at the Purmamarca Artisan Brewery, where the jujeña empanada is present. It should be noted that those who spend the weekend take out their reservations in advance in the lodgings, because their capacity is crowded on Saturdays and Sundays.
Of course jujeños have a lot of activities to do and many destinations to visit on weekends. Therefore, since 2020 the program “Jujuy para jujeños” has been implemented, which invites the inhabitants to travel their lands. In addition, many services, activities and hotels adhere to this program that you can consult through email@example.com . It is also available at the tourist office of San Salvador de Jujuy, located in Canónigo Gorriti 295, which serves from Monday to Friday from 8 to 22, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 8 to 20.
