Go to sectionDo not feel so lonely in our isolation: all forms are valid to preserve the sense of community in the context we are living. In Mar del Plata (Buenos Aires), as in the whole country, at 21 people go out to windows and balconies to applaud the medical body that is fighting coronavirus . The firefighters decided to add something else to this ritual.
Every night, firefighters at Mar del Plata Central Barracks perform a small act to encourage health professionals and raise the morale of the neighbors in this quarantine. In the corner of Salta and Falucho, they take to the street the endowments with the sirens lit at full volume for about a minute. Next to them, the applause from the neighbors who accompany the show are heard.
Then the act becomes more emotional: they reproduce the Argentine national anthem , and applause grows. Then you will hear the song “ Resistiré ”, the classic popularized by the Dynamic Duo that was later reversed by different artists.
Firefighters say that the idea arose spontaneously and that the initiative began to be replicated in the rest of the city's barracks, such as Puerto, Batán, San Patricio, Caisamar and Monolito.
Because in this new stage new rituals are created, customs, which make everyday bearable. That makes us feel close now that we need the distance so much. That makes us hold a little longer, until this is over.
