The winners will be announced on July 12, during the celebration of the literary festival that has been held since 1988 in this principality of Asturias, the editorial Planeta reported in a statement.
This year's edition of the Silverio Cañada Memorial Award is awarded to the best black genre novel in Spanish published in 2018.
The rest of the finalists are “The murder of Laura Olivo” by Jorge Eduardo Benavides; “La novia gitana” by Carmen Mola; “Los Cain” by Enrique Llamas and “To die is not what hurts most”, by Inés Plana.
Published in Argentina by Tusquets, the novel “Hay yourself” tells the story of a person who decides to abandon everything and flee, go south, to Patagonia, to the house where he spent the summers of childhood, to leave behind a sickly relationship that ended in the worst way.
Far from the city, in the desolation of a small village in the middle of the desert, the protagonist tries to write the script for a film as a desperate way to escape mediocrity.
Maqueira (Buenos Aires, 1977) is the author of the chronicles book “Historias de putas” (2008) and the novels “Ruda macho” (2010), “El impostor” (2011) and “Electrónica” (2014).
