A Thanksgiving Tree

In the Santafesino village of Cañada de Gómez, a tree thanks those who come out every day to fight the coronavirus.

Un árbol de gracias Cañada de Gómez

Cañada de Gómez is a small town in the interior of Santafesino, with about thirty thousand inhabitants. To the south of the province, about 75 kilometers separate it from Rosario. In a corner of the city, a neighbor decorated a tree to thank those who work to fight the pandemic.

Raúl lived his whole life in Cañada de Gómez. On the sidewalk of his house stands a very large trunk tree, with branches pruned. Surely, as is usually the case with the trees left in the middle of areas central, its extension bothered. That is why the municipality informed him that, very soon, they will have to remove him.

In large cities of the country transcended the aggressiveness with which some neighbors treat health professionals who have to work exposed to COVID-19. But in Cañada de Gómez the situation is different. Raúl says that every night the neighbors go out to applaud doctors, nurses and so many more workers who “are in the line of fire and go out every day to fulfill their tasks.”

So, to reinforce this thanksgiving, this neighbor thought to take advantage of the last times of this historic tree so that, every day they pass by that corner, these workers see messages that will comfortthem.

The tree carries posters with different professions: police, firefighters, communicators, wastecollectors, and deliverys, hauliers, city guards and police, among others. On the glass you see a huge sign that says “thank you” and that Raúl made with covers from the paint cans where he wrote each letter in black.

We don't know how much longer we'll have to to be confined to the Argentines. While we wait, from Ser Argentino we we add, with a big THANK you, to the gesture of gratitude of Cañada of Gomez.
