Geo information and satellites guard native forests
The province of Chac or is the only one with a specific unit for this type of remote sensing service. It is called Geo information system and works in the generation of information for different technical bodies and academic institutions. There is also direct involvement of other branches of State.
Under Secretary of Natural Resources, Luciano Olivares, stressed that the Geo Information System obtains satellite imagery and processes. This occurs in the center located in the former building of Harvest in Sáenz Peña. This made it possible to detect a illegal dismount north of the Dead River and allowed the hijacking of a bulldozer.
The Geo information center periodically analyzes the information from Landsat, Spot, Sentinel and Resourcesat satellites. This allows you to know permanently the progress of permits authorized by the Forestry Authority and also to detect illegal activities.
It crosses the information
All the information generated is intersected with the digital documentation provided by forest engineers and agronomists in the presentation of projects. A Geographic Information System (GIS) is generated, thus confirming that the works are executed correctly. Each project and implementation must comply with the approved technical plans. In the case of checking excesses or activities outside the limits, action is taken quickly and activities are stopped. This is done together with the control and control department to stop activities.
Early warning system
They have a work scheme in which the the entire forest mass of the Chaco. The Geo information when detecting a area of forests affected, resorts to information from the cadastre provincial and the person responsible is identified. A dossier is made up that will allow the team of lawyers and inspectors to enter the premises and stop illegal disassembly. This early warning system is working on in conjunction with the Secretary of the Environment of the Nation (Sayds). The Sayds usually sends reports that are documented and processed by the Provincial Forestry Directorate.
In 2019, the Under-Secretariat for Natural Resources opened a web space for free access to information on forest loss on an annual basis and quarterly. The goal is for society to know the situation of native forests and to have this type of public information, Olivares said. In this way the Geo information system does not work alone, but does so in conjunction with the State and society.
