The National University of the Northeast (Unne) launched the first intercultural mobility program of the Argentina. It is within the framework of a cooperation agreement with the Universidad Veracruzana Intercultural (UVI) of Mexico. Indigenous students of the Unne will be able to conduct an intercultural exchange and study in that Mexican institution, and vice versa.

From the school, they pointed out that it became the first public university of the country in having such a program. It is the second in Latin America after the UVI, which has already developed its system of cultural exchange.

Laura Rosso, coordinator of the Indigenous Peoples Programme, reported that students committed to the program are invited to present themselves as candidates for the mobility grants. They will be able to study a semester at the University of Veracruzana Intercultural and, at the same time, they will make a call for students of IVU come to the Unne. The call for the Intercultural Exchange Program is open and will run until November 15. The meeting of selection will be the 22nd of the same month. The mobilities will take place during the first half of 2020.

Students interested in participating must have 40 per cent of approved materials, among other requirements. For more information, you can approach the mobility area of their respective faculty.

November 22 will be the meeting of those responsible for academicunits as members of Indigenous Peoples for the selection. In this way the student selected will be able to prepare for the start of Mexican classes in February, explained Rosso. The authorities explained that on this occasion there will be only one plaza, that of the Veracruzana University of Mexico. The project seeks to be expanded to more places and more universities, where there are similar intercultural exchange.

The origin of the agreement

“ I’m proud that we’re the first university in our country to have such a program,” said the rector of the Unne, Delfina Veiravé. The rector explained that this came from a visit to the UVI last year. Veiravé, together with Sara Roberón de Guevara, proposed integrate the experience of the Indigenous Peoples program of the Unne and the UVI.
