Thus was born the cumbia santafesina is the title of the most recent novelty of Ediciones UNL. It is a production co-edited with the Municipality of Santa Fe that is presented as the result of a long and tenacious data collection process: dates, places, photos, names of groups and performers, dance clubs, personal and artistic stories. Everything is reflected in the stories and interviews of Hugo Miguel, its author, together with Amalia Echevarría, for whom the book is a value of the popular music of Santafesina par excellence: cumbia.

Throughout 136 pages, he narrates and describes the origins of the first groups that emerged in the capital city, such as Los Cumbiambas, Los Caminantes, Los Quijotes, Los Duendes and Los Palmeras, among others. “It is my desire as the author of this book to make known to the generations of young musicians, journalists and the general public the most important musical phenomenon that happened in Santa Fe with the arrival of cumbia as danceablefolk music in the 60s. Until that time, the Santafesino musicians lacked a musical identity of their own. Cumbia was inserted in the depths of our ears and hearts becoming the music chosen as its own (…) It is a musical genre that transcended all social classes, an indisputable feature of the identity of the Santaphesinos”, says the author. Thus was born the cumbia santafesina has a text of presentation by Alberto “Pipi” Rivero and prologues by the rector of the UNL, Enrique Mammarella, and the mayor of the city of Santa Fe, José Corral.

“ The task of recovery involved in this work edited by Ediciones UNL is valuable because it turns its gaze on a cultural expression that can tell us a lot about the society in which it emerged, its areas of circulation, the resistance it aroused in the first years and the paths it found to make its way in family and social festivals, in every popular dance ,” says Mammarella. He concludes: “In the year of the Centenary of the UNL, we accompany this effort of the authors and all those who have collaborated to recover an essential chapter of the cultural heritage of Santafesino”.
“ Cumbia is part of the Santafesina identity,” says Mayor José Corral. On the importance of the book, he states that “Hugo’s work becomes fundamental.
