Sad Shot

The shad, river fish par excellence, is a symbol of Santafesino. We tell you how to make a plate with the most popular fish there can be.


The smell of shad is  synonymous with river, mud , humble shores of Setúbal, Salado,  Paraná . Not for nothing Colón, the most popular football team in Santafesino, is nicknamed the  Sabalero . Thousands of fans of this club have shad fishing as a super everyday routine. A special feature: shad, fish that has the habit of moving well along the bottom of the river “sucking mud”, is not caught: it is “fixed” with a spear called  chu z  a .

This particular specimen of our region, like almost all river fish, can be cooked in various ways, but its  grilled  or fried versions are most commonly seen.

The fish sucker is very popular in  Santa Fe . These are pieces of meat made in the pan that are not only found in the kitchens of the best housewives in the neighborhoods, but also in the most  luxurious restós  of the province. Check out on this note how you can make a shad posta sucker in your house.

 How is the chupín made 

  • It takes two kilos of shad poles.
  • Cut four onions and three peppers.
  • Cut half a kilo of tomatoes and a kilo potatoes into slices.
  • Place a saucepan with oil on the fire.
  • Pour onion and pepper until the base is covered.
  • Place a layer of shad post.
  • Add chopped garlic and parsley, salt, pepper and ground chili pepper.
  • Cover with a layer of tomatoes and potatoes, plus a little onions and walrons that should be reserved.
  • Place another layer of post and repeat another batch of vegetables.
  • Spice again.
  • The highest layer is recommended to be potatoes because, being soft, it will indicate that the sucker is ready.
  • Add a glass of white wine and another of water.
  • Cook over low heat.
