Rote Grutze

A typical German delicacy.

Today I present my grandmother Oma's favourite dessert. It is a specialty typical of Germany and the Scandinavian peninsula and is the richest red fruit dessert you will ever taste. It can be mixed with yogurt or cream and served cold or warm depending on the month in which you prepare it. Ingredients: 300 grams of fresh or frozen blueberries 300 grams of cherries, blackberries or gooseberries, fresh or frozen 50 grams of strawberries 200 milliliters of water 300 grams of sugar 4 tablespoons cornstarch Preparation: Wash the fruits, stalk them and place them in a bowl with the sugar for one hour. Then cook them to minimum fire in a pot with the water. When the fruits are well soft (almost dissolved), add the corn starch and stir for five minutes more over minimum heat. Place in small bowls and serve. Seasonal tip: Beet plums can be used. In that case, use a kg or combine with raspberries or strawberries.
