Kuat Kuih (Chinese Muffins)

Meet this oriental recipe for steamed muffins (you don't need an oven!).

Is there anything nicer than being able to do something rich avoiding having to take out all the things we store in the oven to use it? Or is it just me?

I loved these muffins for their open shape on the surface and for the variety of colors we can play with. I made them inside a large pot with the accessory for steaming that opens like a flower and bought anywhere. I use it a lot because I prefer to steamed my vegetables instead of boiling them.

I'm going to pass you some of the many recipes there, the others I'll have to try are with pumpkin puree, carrot, black sugar, coffee...

You can do it today. They are very fast to prepare, the only complication is that not many can be done in a batch (only disadvantage with the oven). But it's fantastic because if we're only 2 or 3 people, this idea is sensational. To create!!

  • Leavenant flour 250g
  • Sugar 100g
  • Orange juice 230g
  • Oil 50cc
  • Baking powder 1 tbsp

Mix the juice with sugar, add oil, then flour and baking powder. Put the dough in small molds covered with lard paper or pyrotines filling them to the edge.

Cook steamed in a strong stove for 15-20 minutes. Do not lift the lid during cooking.

To make them colored, take a little bit of the dough in another small bowl, put the desired dye (or chocolate) and mix. Finally, put a teaspoon of this color above the muffin. If you make them with more colors, go putting them next to each other and cooking will make their creation!
