Honey leicaj for this Rosh Hashanah

This dessert is delicious and its recipe goes from generations to generations. Ideal for these traditional holidays

We bring you a dessert that you can not miss on the Jewish table: the typical leicaj. It is done with honey, egg, sugar, cinnamon, tea and oil. The result is a fluffy sweet, circular shape like that of a saloon. Like apples with honey, their sweetness symbolizes the imperious desire to have a “sweet” New Year.

  • 1 glass of liquid honey
  • 1 1/2 glass of sugar
  • 1 glass of neutral oil
  • 3 glasses of flour
  • 1 glass of water
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger root or powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon walnut muscada

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a jarrito, once it breaks the boil, add the baking soda and wait for this warm.
  2. In a bowl, lay eggs and sugar, beat with wire whisk, incorporate honey, oil and ginger. Mix well.
  3. Add the water with the baking soda. And previously sifted flour with cinnamon and nutmeg, be careful that lumps do not form.
  4. Dump into three medium English pudding molds, butted and floured.
  5. Bring to a preheated 160 degree (soft) oven for 50 minutes or until firm.
  6. Unmold and let cool.

Ready to serve on the table!
