Creole potato cake: easy and to prepare at home

Typical food from Argentina, although with European origin, Creole potato cake is an easy recipe. Dare you to cook. Here we tell you how to do it.

The quarantine encourages that cook, due to lack of time or initiative, does not cook during the year. An  easy recipe  for tearing is the classic Creole Potato Cake. With ingredients that we all have in our homes, we present you a recipe to surprise your family.

It is a classic of  Argentine cuisine , especially in the northeast, it is a very popular dish. But did you know that it is inspired by the  English  cottage pie  , which became popular in the UK among the lower classes in the 18th century?

Its origin may not be Argentine, but the Creole version carries the taste and  imprint of our soil , that is undeniable. The important thing and to highlight is that it is simple and quick to do

How to do it...

Ingredients for the filling

  • 500 g minced meat
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 onions
  • 2 green onions
  • 1 red bell
  • Handful of raisins
  • 1 glass of white wine
  • 1 handful of cheesy olives
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 100 g grate cheese
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Ingredients for puree

  • 7 potatoes
  • 200 cc milk
  • 50 g butter
  • 2 yolks
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Step by step

  1. Moisturize the raisins in white wine for a few hours and book.
  2. Boil eggs to make them hard boiled, peel them and set aside.
  3. In a frying pan saute the vegetables well chopped in olive (garlic together with the green, onions and bell). When tender reserve them and in the same frying pan brown the meat (add oil if necessary). Book.
  4. In a bowl mix the meat with the sautéed, cut the hydrated raisins, chopped hard boiled egg and chopped olives.
  5. For mashed potatoes, boil the peeled potatoes in water and salt, step on them together with the butter, milk and yolks. Salt pimentar.
  6. Place the filling in a greased or oiled baking dish, cover with a layer of puree, sprinkle with Parmesan and bring in the oven until gratin.
