Why is today Doctor's Day?
December 3: Doctor's Day.
If there is a profession that is chosen by pure vocation, it is medicine. Otherwise, no student would endure years and years of study, endless residences, sleepless nights and a social life in installments. Sacrifices of all kinds that finally have their prize: the privilege of dedicating one's own life to doing better that of others is something that not many can be proud of. Carlos Juan Finlay Barrés was a Cuban doctor and scientist, whose vocation was as profound as that of many other colleagues. Finlay found that yellow fever transmission — one of the most feared diseases at the time — was caused by an intermediary vector: the mosquito Aedes aegypti . In his honor, the Pan American Medical Confederation decided that Physician's Day should be celebrated on the date of his birth: December 3. From 1956, Argentina joined that commemoration, which means that today is the day when we have to greet our doctors to thank them for their dedication and dedication to a profession that is certainly not easy, but that really makes a difference. Happy day to all doctors!
