The birthday that most people celebrate

The Department of Guaymallén, in Mendoza, is 162 years old. It is where more people live, among other titles. Meet him on his anniversary.

Traditions
guaymallén

Guaymallén is one of the most important departments of Mendoza. It is part of the prominent urban center called Gran Mendozaand borders the department of Ciudad. As for its area is not one of the largest, but it is around its population . Guaymallén is the place where more people live: 300 mil.

On 14 May 1858, during the Government of Cornelius Moyano, a decree was signed establishing that the territory of San José (today, one of the most important districts) would be called, in the after, Department of Guaymallén and would be headed by that neighborhood, under the name of Villa de Guaymallén.

Etymology

The word Guaymallén means “land of swamps, vegas or bathed”. Paradoxical. Mendoza is a real desert today and the department of Guaymallén is no exception. On the contrary, it does not have any important cause of water .

Information of interest

Guaymallén's location is neuralgic. Two national routes cut off the department: the South Access (National Route 40), which connects it with the provincial south, and the East Access ( National Route 7), which crosses it from east to west, being the main access road to the city and discharge to Buenos Aires. This has made the department's economy grow and diversify, containing more people with the establishment of large shopping centers and major hotel chains .

The boxer Nicolino Locche, one of the best in the history of our country, was born in Guaymallén. In fact, at present, an important sports stadium bears its name. But it is not the only highlight, but there are more people who represent the department abroad, such as, for example, the Pity Martinez, who was born in the district of El Sauce.

Finally, it is important to mention that Guaymallén is not a highlight for its tourist offer and does not offer spaces of public interest. However, more and more people take advantage of the green spaces adjacent to the aforementioned East Access or the main district squares.
