Boleadoras: the gaucha weapon

The boleadoras are one of the typical instruments of Argentine gaucho. We tell you what types exist and their uses.

Boleadoras ela rma gaucha

The Argentine  gaucho  knew how to acquire skills that allowed him to master life in the countryside, with everything that involved. Among them, he adopted rudimentary weapons that he learned to handle in a surprising way. One of them is the  boleadoras .

Gaucho used boleadoras when working with animals. These are leather ties with stone balls at the ends. There are three types of boleadora.

  •  Crazy ball or lost ball . It has only one ball and was used for the capture of small animals.
  •  Ostrichers . It has two balls and, as the name suggests, was used to capture ostriches.
  •  Three Marias.  It's the most popular. They were used for work with cattle and horses. When the gaucho threw them, the balls twisted around the animal's paws and the animal fell.
