“The Solidarity Friends.” He joined the group with his friend Darío, his wife Laura and one of his daughters, Milagros. They are all  co-founders of the Nelson Mandela picnic area, with humble families living in social housing in the neighborhood of the same name.

“We started with milk and bill about 50 boys and girls, and today they attend about 300, who every day come in search of a dish of hot food.”

“On Saturday we're going to make a potato cake because we want them to have another kind of food,” said Diego. He admits that “is an expensive idea, if you take into account in the value of meat and the amount that is needed. But people are helping us with donations for the cake to make it. We already have a group of Scouts and the Leo Club. They will peel potatoes and help with the preparations.”

The picnic area operates at 1677 María del Carmen Campos street in the Nelson Mandela district of Santa Rosa. “There we started about a year ago to give them milk with bills,” he said.

Diego is not an entrepreneur or a high-ranking employee, he is a cadet who is part of a peer cooperative. He's in front of the football club “Che Guevara”, which is attended by the boys in the neighborhood.

“We train 35 minutes, sometimes we rally until the night with the light cut off. Then each guy, according to his family group, takes one or two liters of milk. If we have, we also give them cocoa and cookies or invoices and guarantee their snack.”

Diego links his solidarity to his past life. “I was born into a poor family with seven siblings and raised in schools homes. I know what it's like to go hungry.”

“Politicians don't come here, not even for the photo. People come and collaborate, it's more in a few days, 15 grandmothers from a geriatric home in Quehué, they're going to come to cook us on a Saturday and that, makes us happy,” he concluded.
