For those who still have a 5-peso ticket lagging in their wallets, there is good news. Due to the mandatory isolation decreed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the Central Bank decided to extend until May 29, 2020 the exchange of Saint Martin .
Until May 29, then, persons holding five-peso banknotes must deposit them or exchange them in the bank's boxes, from the time the quarantine is lifted.
'Financial institutions shall receive until 29 May 2020 copies submitted by the public for the purposes of their exchange or accreditation into account and must deposit such banknotes as damaged at the headquarters of the Central Bank until 31 August 2020", details paragraph 6.1 of the Communication A6948 .
In addition, the Central Bank Communication clarifies that “until 31 August 2020 the status of legal tender for 5 pesos banknotes deposited by financial institutions at the headquarters of this Institution must be recognized.”
In shops, February 28 was the last day on which 5 pesos tickets could be used. Currently, only currencies of that value are accepted.
One more time, then, to say goodbye to the San Martin tickets that have been saved.
