La Plata, the first Argentine city to have electric public lighting.

On January 11, 1884 in La Plata, an electric public lighting service was inaugurated, being the first city in the country to have this system.

On January 11, 1884, the first test plant was installed on 5th Street between 51 and 53, behind the Government House, which supplied power to a tower 50 meters high with 6 lamps at its top of 4,000 spark plugs each.The tower was located in Plaza San Martín and its light came to be seen from the city of Colonia, Uruguay.
