Federalization of Buenos Aires

On December 6, 1880, President Julio Argentino Roca promulgated the law declaring Buenos Aires capital of the Republic and placed it under direct federal control.

News of the Day

On August 24, 1880, Avellaneda submitted a bill declaring Buenos Aires the capital of the Republic and placed it under direct federal control; on September 21, the law was passed, and on December 6 was promulgated by the new President Julio Argentino Roca.
