National Lamb Festival in “the prettiest”
Since 1977 Puerto Madryn has celebrated the National Lamb Festival. It is an event in honor of the livestock work, which rescues the cultural values of the countryside Chubutense. Although it had several interruptions, the Fiesta remains on its feet and will be held in November.
The Sports Complex of Club Deportivo Madryn will once again host this popular festival with a program varied. Cultural activities, shows, demonstrations of shearing, arreo with dogs, jockeys, election of the queen, will be part of this 2019 edition. There will also be a sector of exhibitions, artisans walk and gastronomic patio with proposals of dishes for all tastes.
Among the Creole skills we can highlight the riders that summon the best jockeys from the fields of Chubut and neighboring provinces. Fieldwork exhibitions, such as live shearing demonstrations, are other major attractions. They are characterized by being “unique in the area”, since they are made with scissors manually, as was done at the beginning of the 20th century by the pioneers of the region.
Also demonstrations of field dogs are conducted with their skills to the ploughing of sheep. Winners of the Provincial Party of the Country Dog, which takes place in Telsen, are faithful participants of these demonstrations.
The typical Patagonian lamb will be the gastronomic attraction and can be consumed during the four days, both on the grill and on the stake. There will also be empanadas, sandwiches, casseroles, brochettes, regional meals and the capon stew campero.
During the popular festival, and from 18 pm, folk ballets, groups and regional soloists will be presented inside the Luján Barrientos Gymnasium. Friday night will be closed by the winning group of the Viña del Mar festival, Destino San Javier; on Saturday will be the Pimpinela Duo, and on Sunday the closing will be in charge of Karina La Princesita.
