The owners of the bass drum

Legüereale is a group of women who appropriated the hype and took it out of its traditionally masculine realm. We present them to you.

An instrument without a genre: no musical genre and that is not masculine or feminine.  Legüereale  is a community of feminist women (or a “rump”, as they like to call themselves) who adopted the  legüero hype   as their own, which generated a double rupture. On the one hand, it ceased to be an instrument reserved for men. On the other hand, he ceased to be exclusive to folk music. Today it is played by women who make music that cannot be classified within a specific genre.

The women's collective began in La Plata in 2012. In his music, different languages coexist.   Legüereale  is an ensemble of musics, singers and dancers, which combine the strength of drums and drums with melodic instruments, song and dance. It is an integral conception in which each piece is part of a whole.

The legüero bass drum

This instrument is  the best known  hype  of folklore . Originally from Santiago del Estero, from there it expanded throughout northern Argentina. However, its benefits went beyond music. His name is not accidental. It's called that because you can literally hear a league. In his native Santiago, he was even used to delimit territories. How far did one pay go and start another? Easy: as far as the hype was heard, exactly one league.

Legüereale appropriated this instrument so masculine and so representative of folklore, who have their own compositions and incorporate instruments as varied as guitar, cello, ronroco, trverse flute, bowls and wind instruments.

A different proposal that is worth knowing.
