Renowned Argentine pianist Martha Argerich was named honorary member of the prestigious Konzerthaus room in Vienna, with which the artist has had a close relationship for years, the institution said today, where she first played in 1959, when she was 18, said the agency Efe.
The Konzerthaus, founded in 1913, chooses an artist every year as an honorary member: musicians such as Richard Strauss, Leonard Bernstein, Yehudi Menuhin, Spaniard Jordi Savall and Venezuelan José Antonio Abreu are among those who have been honored with the recognition.
“ With the appointment of Martha Argerich as an honorary member of the Society of Konserthaus in Vienna, we want to pay tribute to one of the greatest living pianists,” said the artistic director of the concert hall, Matthias Naske, in a statement.
Naske highlighted the “absolute immediacy of her performance” and the “phenomenal technique” as two of the aspects that define Argerich as a singular pianist, while sources of the place assured that the pianist is very happy with this honor and said that in the 2019/2020 season she will return toto act there.
Since his first performance, Argerich performed 19 times in that room, most recently during last season, with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
