 President of the Argentine Nation. 

Vice-President: MARCOS PAZ.

Mandate: October 12, 1862 to October 12, 1868 (Licensed between March 1865 and January 1868, on the occasion of commanding the Paraguayan War).

  • Amendment of the National Constitution in 1866.Enactment of the Compromise Law, establishing the residence of national authorities in Buenos Aires.
  • Nationalization of the Customs of Buenos Aires.
  • Extension and unification of Secondary Education, with the founding of national colleges in several provinces.
  • Implementation of the Code of Procedures in Civil and Commercial Matters.
  • Beginning of construction of the Centra Argentino Railway (from Rosario to Cordoba) and the South.
  • Organization of the Supreme Court of Justice.
  • Reorganization of the Bank of the Province of Buenos Aires.
  • Commissioned Dalmacio Vélez Sarsfield with the drafting of the Civil Code.
  • War against Paraguay.Creation of the National College of Buenos Aires.
  • Telegraphic connection with  Rosario  and Montevideo.
