“Concern should be the patient, not the disease”

Still surprised by the popular repercussions and congratulations of an entire country, including the  President  of the Nation himself, Dr. Luis Schapira continues with his very work of helping his neighbor more than 70 years ago.  Every morning he arrives early with his staff full of wisdom and love to Juan Fernández Hospital to continue defending the public hospital from dialogue and work.  “The success of a hospital is based on teamwork from the cleaning person to the Director,” he says, while holding a folder with articles focused on  patient care, before a class, and lashes out, “you have to think that you can't die people from treatable diseases. More than outreach campaigns, which last a week like the flu, we need to implement sustained advocacy in  schools  and families.” Married more than 50 years ago to Sara, father of two children, and happy grandfather of five grandchildren, leaves a wake-up call to consider in the future when thinking about what to prop within a health policy seriously: “The first drug is the doctor.”
