The company reaffirms its commitment to families and updates its children's menu with more nutritious and balanced options.

 Arcos Dorados , McDonald's largest independent franchise in the world, continues to use its large scale to generate a positive impact on communities. From now on, the  Happy Box  menu will include more fruits and vegetables; and fewer fats, sodium, and added sugars. In this way, on average all the combinations of  Box Feliz  offered in all local  McDonald's in Argentina  will have a better nutritional offer with less than 600 calories and 20% less total fat, 14% less saturated fat, 20% less sodium and 78% less added sugars.

 Child nutrition  has always been a strong commitment to the company. Since 2011, the company has been making changes to improve the nutritional balance in the  Box Feliz.  This makes it the first fast food chain to carry out this type of initiatives, making a difference and taking advantage of its large scale to offer the food that families like the most because it is delicious, balanced and always fun. In recent years, new flavors and ingredients have been added, such as yogurts, apples and cherry tomatoes. This year, the menu evolves towards a more nutritious and complete meal for children with less fats, sodium and added sugars, offering combinations that include:
— 100% applesauce without added sugar or artificial dyes or flavorings.
— 100% fruit juice, no added sugar, no artificial dyes or flavorings.

The nutritional changes of the  Happy Box  announced today are aligned with the eating habits that evolve with changes in society. Families currently have more information and that is why there is a greater awareness of feeding children better than in previous generations. This is described by an opinion study conducted by the research consultant Trendsity**, in conjunction with Arcos Dorados. Despite challenges to a more nutritious diet, 60% of fathers and mothers surveyed believe that their children eat better than they do at the same age. In turn, 7 out of 10 have incorporated or increased the consumption of natural juices in the diet. On the other hand, the study reflects a growing concern about the consumption of sugar-containing products, indicating that 8 out of 10 fathers and mothers reported to have reduced sugar-containing foods or beverages.

The company will continue to evolve with news on its children's menu as these changes are part of a long-term plan. That's why he is exploring to work in the food groups that  the World Health Organization  recommends to incorporate into a balanced diet such as whole grains, lean proteins, dairy and more fruits and vegetables. At the same time, it will also be focused on offering more novelties through innovative packaging and more playful formats, so that the  Happy Box  is increasingly nutritious and fun.

We are already working on the next steps to continue evolving food and ingredient options with regard to our children's menu over the next few years. We have as a priority to serve quality food, generating delicious moments,” complements  Marcelo Rabach .

The new nutrition policy led by the company is developed with the highest standards of responsibility. “Knowing that many children eat at  McDonald's  quite regularly, menu reformulations have the potential to have a significant impact on risk reduction (cardiovascular disease). Restaurant offerings and advertising practices play an important role in the demand for healthy products. We believe that the entire restaurant industry can help improve heart health by making healthy menus the norm for children's meals,” said  Dr. Jorge Tartaglione, president of Fundación Cardiológica Argentina .

In addition to this local support, nutritional changes in the  Box Feliz  have the endorsement of the main nutrition agencies in different countries such as the Associação Brasileira de Nutrologia (ABRAN), the Peruvian Nutrition Society (SOPENUT) and the Uruguayan Association of Dietitians and Nutritionists, among other institutions which support the initiative.

In this way,  Arcos Dorados  aligns itself with the global objectives consolidated by the  McDonald's  system around the world and reinforces its commitment to generate a positive impact on the communities where it operates.
